Intersection of Gender and Pedagogy in Bharatanāṭyam: Analyzing Cross-Gender Teaching Practices and Exploring Gender Inclusive Training Methods |
Bharatanāṭyam is one of the oldest classical dance forms which originated from the rich tapestry of South India. The dynamics that are prevalent in gender, play a very important role in Bharatanāṭyam where the dancers are required to portray both the male and female roles. This research paper will look into the intersection of gender and pedagogy in Bharatanāṭyam by analyzing the cross gender teaching practices and exploring the gender inclusive training methods. The objectives, of this research, are to examine the impact and understanding the nuances prevailing in male teachers teaching female students and vice versa. This research also aims to explore the strategies used by Bharatanāṭyam teachers to bring about gender inclusivity while teaching, the thought process and experiences of students who are learning from their opposite gender teachers. |
